Exchange Programme
The Somerset College Senior Student Exchange Programme is an exciting opportunity for students to experience a new culture, attend a school overseas and live with a host family in that country.
Students grow in confidence and return home enthused by the experience of being independent and seeing first-hand how another school system and culture operates.
The programme involves a relationship with approximately ten schools throughout the world in countries such as ENGLAND, AUSTRALIA, GERMANY, THE NETHERLANDS, FRANCE, CANADA and NEW ZEALAND.
Each year we welcome one or two students from each of these schools for six to eight weeks during our third term (mid-July to mid-September). For the duration of this period they are hosted by a Somerset College family.
These visiting students are inserted fully into the academic, cultural and sport programme of the school, and participate in the parallel course the College runs on aspects of South African culture.

One of the highlights of the exchange period is the Exchange Weekend, a four day visit to the Southern Cape for the visiting students and their Somerset College hosts. The visiting students also participate in the Grade 10 Outdoor Education Programme in the Cederberg.
During our fourth term (early October to early December) the Somerset College exchange students travel overseas to the schools and families of the students that their families hosted during the third term.
The programme is designed for the Grade 10 students (15 to 16 years of age) and is open to both boys and girls.
