Information Technology

Children born into today's fast-paced technological age are used to information being readily accessible to them, both through computer programmes and the Internet. As such, it is essential that Somerset College remains on the cutting edge of Information Technology.

Skills learned at Preparatory School are further developed at the Senior School where efficient research skills, graphic applications, development of multimedia, programming in JAVA and the International Computer Driving Licence course all form part of the Grade 8 and 9 curriculums. Academic subjects of Information Technology and Computer Applications Technology are offered up to Matric level.

Committed to constantly upgrading and developing its facilities, the Senior School has a fully functioning computer network. Based on a Microsoft platform, the network utilises five servers that manage 180 computers network-wide.

Staff and students enjoy the convenience of 24/7 broadband access, private mailboxes accessible from home, three computer rooms, data points in every classroom and the boarding house, and wireless access points across the campus.
