Grade 7
Grade 7, whilst still part of the Preparatory school structure, is the beginning of the Senior phase of schooling and ensuring that there is a smooth transition to Senior school education.
While Somerset College Preparatory, does not appoint students to formal leadership positions, the school offers a leadership programme for Grade 7s. This is a voluntary programme designed to stretch and challenge pupils in the area of leadership. It encourages students to take initiatives, which will inspire and challenge their lives as well as the lives of their peers, while allowing them to develop and grow, as they aspire to achieve their personal goals.
Students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and take risks and in doing so they will learn more about themselves and the world around them.
There are four categories
- Service to the School
- Self enrichment (includes courses such as First Aid, lifesaving, PR and peer mediation)
- Service to the community
- School conduct
Students are assigned a mentor (staff member) for the course, who supports and assist the student. After successfully completing the leadership programme, the students are awarded certificates at the final Grade 7 assembly.
