Preparatory cricket tour to KwaZulu-Natal

Early in March 2010 the Somerset College U13A cricket team left on a two week tour to Kwazulu Natal.  After a 6 hour plane delay, we finally left Cape Town airport.  The boys were nervous but excited and soon settled in to what was a great tour.

We played eight games against strong schools ranging from the Natal Midlands through to Umhlali - north of Durban.  Two of the many highlights were winning our very first game against Pelham Preparatory School in Pietermaritzburg and beating a very strong St Charles team in a 20/20 match. We had four rest days which were fantastic.  On one of those days we travelled to Ushaka Marine World and spent a great day on the rides in the water park.  The whole experience was amazing and while we had loads of fun, we also played really well as a team.  Some of the stand out performances were a wonderful 87* by Matthew Lombardi, a classy 79 and 70 respectively by Phillip Carstens and Joshua Henderson.  Our bowlers also performed well with Jan Phillip Kraus, Morgan Kelly, Jet Hardie and Joshua Henderson achieving 4 wicket hauls each.

We ended up winning five matches, drawing one and losing two games. Thanks again to Mr Bevan and Mr Alexander for the great tour - it was truly an amazing experience!
