SARAH SPRING (nee Gilbert) matriculated from Somerset College in 2004, and is currently working as an artist based in Johannesburg. She obtained her BFA from Rhodes University, Grahamstown, where she was given the Rowney Award for achieving the highest mark in Studio Practice. Sarah also participated in a bookbinding workshop through Stellenbosch University and has since exhibited in several group exhibitions and given workshops on book-binding.

 

In 2010 she and the late Mark Hipper published one of her art books, which received a Merit Award from the Absa L’Atelier in 2011 (The Absa L’Atelier is the most prestigious award in Africa for young South African Artists).  While Sarah’s primary focus is book art, she also works in print-making, mixed media and stop-animation. In 2012 Sarah will be running the Art Education for the Early learning Phase at Reddam House, Waterfall Estate.
