What Is The Acorn Bursary Trust?

The Acorn Bursary Trust aims to provide deserving candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds with bursaries, so that these young people can benefit from a Somerset College education.

Who Controls The Acorn Bursary Trust?

The contributions to the Trust and financial matters pertaining to it are managed by the six legally
appointed trustees:

Mr Johan Holtzhausen (Chairperson)
Mr Enrico Greyling (Governor)
Mr Robert Goff (Governor)

Dr Tim Nuttall (Senior School Head)
Mr Jan de Waal (Preparatory School Head)
Mrs Gail Schulschenk (Business Manager)

How Can You Assist The Acorn Bursary Trust?

The Trust invites individuals and businesses in making the dream of a better future for all, a reality, by encouraging:

  • BUSINESSES to become involved in creating the opportunity for underprivileged, talented students to attend Somerset College.

  • PARENTS to make a contribution per term (together with their school fees), and/or to cede their debentures to the Trust when their children leave Somerset College.

  • FRIENDS OF THE COLLEGE to continue their invaluable support of the College and its undertaking to reach out to others in the community.

All funds received by the Trust and / or interest earned on the same will be utilized for the benefit of talented children identified.

Managing The Vision

The Trustees are committed to the objectives of the Trust and are investing a great deal of energy in ensuring that the funds are effectively administered.

With the generous assistance of individuals and businesses, the Acorn Bursary Trust will continue to make a growing contribution to our shared future.

Mission Statement

The Acorn Bursary Trust will endeavour to put into action the understanding of the statement with privilege comes responsibility by:

  • Raising a capital sum that will generate sufficient income to fund a Somerset College education for students from the disadvantaged communities of South Africa.

  • Endeavouring to foster and develop leadership skills in these students so that they can make a contribution to the nation.

  • Identifying children, especially at Preparatory level, with talent and potential who will gain considerably from the opportunities that they are given.
